Beginner SMART Notebook Tools (K-12)
This course is for the K-12 user with little to no experience using a SMARTBoard and for those in need of a skill refresher. Participants will address (a) SMART Notebook Software, (b) common lesson planning strategies and activities, (c) basic trouble shooting, and (d) valuable resources for the SMARTBoard user. Participants will work individually and collaboratively to practice skills and create interactive lessons and activities.
Advanced SMART Notebook Tools (K-12)
Ready to get SMARTer? If you already use your SMARTBoard on a daily basis but are looking for new ways to incorporate its additional features into your classroom, this class is for you! Don't let another day go by wishing you knew how to use your board more effectively. You'll receive hands-on and step-by-step instruction, along with work time to develop fully interactive lessons that incorporate layers, grouping, audio elements, and video. Please bring a flash drive and any curriculum guides or teacher manuals that will assist your lesson development.
K-3 Primary SMARTBoard Lessons (K-3)
Make technology an integral part of your day! Learn ways to use technology to help your lessons come to life for our youngest learners. Participants will benefit through active participation, sound integration, and recognition of their goals. Share current, exciting websites, gain comfort with organizing your SMART Notebook files, and learn to use the SMART Tools more effectively. This class is designed for current SMARTBoard users looking to increase their usage and knowledge of SMARTBoard. Participants should bring current curriculum, teacher’s manuals, and a flash drive. Participants will leave this class with lessons they can take back to their classroom and use right away!
Integrating Project CRISS and Technology (3-12)
Now that you’ve got your SMARTBoard skills down, you’re beginning to wonder how to maximize its impact on student learning. In this course, participants will explore ways of integrating the Project CRISS philosophy with the interactive whiteboard and other technologies. The philosophy of Project CRISS, a research-based, best-practice support system for educators across all curricular areas, is designed to increase student-centered teaching, independent learning, and student achievement. Familiarity with Project CRISS is not necessary for participation. In this session, participants will discover and collaborate on a variety of approaches for engaging students and helping them derive the greatest benefit from classroom technologies. Please bring your CRISS manual with you if you have one!
SMARTBoards in the English/Language Arts Classroom (3-12)
Expand that SMARTBoard knowledge! Design an organized backdrop with which to move your class forward through any unit: novels, writing, grammar or vocabulary. Learn how to integrate rich media content revitalizing a current lesson. Explore and share worthwhile web sites, organize your SMART Notebook files and develop strategies to use SMART tools and gallery effectively. This class is designed for current SMARTBoard users who have a desire to utilize the power of this interactive tool within the classroom. Participants should bring curriculum requirements, teacher materials and a flash drive to class. Return to school this fall with a newly designed unit and a plethora of cool tools guaranteed to excite your students and keep them motivated!
Video Editing: Anyone Can Create Movies (K-12)
Lights, camera, action! In this course, participants will be introduced to the art of moving making. Creating story boards, utilizing rich media (images, music, sound, narration, and video), understanding and incorporating good design principles and editing techniques will be the main focus. The skills developed in this course will help the participant integrate technology skills with their students in the classroom that they would not have been comfortable with in the past. Movie making is a great way to incorporate many of the current technology standards. Final projects can easily be used with SMARTBoards, PowerPoint presentations, added to web sites or simply shared with a class or at a meeting.
Web 2.0 Tools (K-12)
At the end of the course each participant will have completed a series of lesson activities related to the day’s topic and connecting to their own subject matter utilizing specific Web 2.0 tools. The objectives are to (1) integrate the Internet into a variety of classroom curriculum settings and lesson activities, (2) demonstrate proficiency and fluency of web-based content via Web 2.0 applications, and (3) incorporate a RIGOR and RELEVANCY to the tools in a manner that demonstrates HIGHER LEVEL THINKING skills for their students. Collaborating, creating, sharing are the basis of Web 2.0. Discover how to harness that power to develop strategies to enhance both content and learning.
The Wireless Classroom: Integrating Laptops, Tablets & Handhelds (K-12)
Wireless use of laptops, netbooks, tablets, and handheld devices is reaching many school districts. Rather than shy away from these engaging devices, learn how to best leverage them with your students’ learning. This course covers (a) the technical aspects of using wireless devices at school, (b) ideas for guiding students through acceptable use of wireless devices in the classroom, and (c) ideas for integrating wireless devices equitably into lessons. Course participants are welcome to bring any charged, personal wireless devices to the class.
